Situation

In a joint effort with representatives from six organizations, Balboa Park came to us with the goal of creating a new website that would inspire online visitors to take an offline trip to one of the region’s largest tourist attractions. The original site was overloaded with external content, third party tools, and challenging plugins that made the experience of exploring the park and finding important information both difficult and time-consuming.

Our Approach

We started by exploring the current site and the thousands of pages, locations, and attractions to better organize the site into content and navigation that users would understand. We then ran user testing to ensure the navigation design and new calendar solution helped people find key attractions and events in an intuitive, user-centric way. From there, we designed a look and feel that was authentic to the park, its visitors, and to the San Diego region. By doing so, we helped users get a true feel for what a visit to the park would entail while making it easier to actually plan a trip.
